Journey With The Chakras (90 minutes)
Chakras are subtle energy centers in our body. When the chakras blocked, energy cannot flow freely in this area and we experience physical and emotional imbalances. In this workshop, we will explore the 7 main chakras and the area of life each chakra governs. You will leave the workshop with a better understanding of how to recognize the imbalances in the chakras as well as understand how to balance each chakra food, yoga poses, meditation and breathing exercises (pranayama).

Fundamentals of Ayurveda (90 minutes)
In this workshop, we will explore basic concepts of Ayurveda and we will introduce the pancha mahabhutas or 5 elements. We will be led on a guided journey to explore these elements and their many facets. This foundation allows us to evaluate the different elements in ourselves, food, environment and the world and allow us to understand what we can do to find balance. We will then learn about how different combinations of these elements create 3 doshas or mind-body constitutions. This understanding will help us understand the physical, emotional and mind states of ourselves as individuals, our children, our students, our clients and others that are present in our lives. We will bring awareness to our responses, and thoughts and learn what is needed to find balance. These same elements that exist within ourselves on a micro level also exist in the macro cosmos and understanding this relationship will also help us and others around us find balance. This workshop is highly encouraged to provide a framework to other Ayurvedic workshops.

Breathing and Meditation to Detoxify and Re-energize Your Mind and Body (90 minutes)
This workshop will introduce the concept of prana and its importance in our vitality. We will evaluate certain writings in the ancient texts that define this practice as fundamental to overall well being. We will then continue our journey by learning a variety of breathing techniques or pranayama which will open the doors to meditation. Some breathing techniques include kapal bhati and anulom vilom. Discover the benefits of each technique and go home with a customized practice for you to continue on your own. Remember pranayama should be learned by a well-seasoned practitioner in order to avoid any harm to your body. It is very important for pranayama to be practiced with proper technique. Our journey will end with a guided or unguided meditation depending on your preference.

Eating for Your Mind-Body Constitution (90 minutes)
Building on your knowledge of the Fundamentals of Ayurveda workshop, we will explore Ayurvedic principles guiding us on how food can be used to heal and restore balance to our mind, body, and spirit. After a brief review of the 3 doshas (vata, pitta and kapha), we will explore the elements in the context of food. You will be guided to not understand the underlying elements in food but to learn how to use this understanding to find balance within your doshas or mind-body constitution. This workshop is taught in this way so you can apply these principles to any food and so you may learn how to understand which foods to choose to find balance. We will continue our journey to explore the mental properties of food and how we can change our diet to promote mental clarity or a pure mind. This workshop is highly recommended to learn the Ayurvedic principles of food, to begin to understand the energetic value of food, and to become aware of your personal relationship with food.

Eating as a Yogi- Enhancing Your Practice With Food (90 minutes)
According to Ayurveda, foods are classified in 1 of 3 ways based on the effects that the specific food has on your mind (sattvic, rajas and tamas). In this workshop, we will explore the Ayurvedic classification of food in detail and how food and diet can be used to enhance or elevate your practice. Just like certain foods may agitate or stimulate the mind and make it more difficult to meditate, there are foods that, because of their energetic effect, have the ability to bring calmness, clarity and purity to the mind. You will leave the workshop with an understanding of a balancing diet that will enhance your spiritual practice.

Authentic Teachings of Yoga & Ayurveda for Modern Living (90 minutes)
We will explore how to integrate teachings from Yoga and Ayurveda into your daily life to maximize the benefits of these two sciences. This workshop will include a discussion on the benefits of Yoga, pranayama and meditation. We will also use our understanding of the elements to discover which elements are more present during different times of the day and which elements are more present during different seasons. Our understanding of which elements are dominant at different times during the year and which elements are used to find balance, we will create and discover daily routine (dinacharya) and seasonal routine (ritucharya). Remember routine provides a great ambiance for healing.

Ayurvedic Cooking (90 minutes)
In this workshop, we will discuss briefly the benefits of certain Indian spices and general principles governing food compatibility. We will then explore Ayurvedic cooking by preparing Ayurvedic and customized vegetarian dishes including kitchari and dahl according to your dosha. This workshop can be explored on its own if you simply would like to learn how to prepare Ayurvedic meals. If you would like to deepen your understanding of Ayurveda, the Fundamentals of Ayurveda and Eating for Your Mind-Body Constitution workshops will provide a foundation to this cooking experience.
